confluence microlearning

Camtasia Sample:

  • I run a Learning Advisory Committee (LAC), and several members expressed frustration with navigating Confluence. In response to this problem, I created microlearning trainings that not only demonstrated how to use Confluence, but also included processes . Utilizing a microlearning format had several benefits.

    • The members of the LAC are mostly people managers and have busy schedules. To respect their time, I kept the videos short, around a minute.

    • Shorter videos meant that there was a better chance that the intended learners would be able to find time to complete the learning in a timely manner.

    • Chunking the information into short and concise topics makes it more likely the learning will retain the information.

    • Restricting videos lengths meant I had to keep only the necessary information and eliminate all the "fluff."

The completed Confluence videos were shared with the committee and uploaded to the company's LMS.

  • When creating new pages in Confluence, learners will immediately use the page restriction functions in Confluence to share sensitive and important information only with appropriate, relevant users.

  • Upon completion of the Confluence security and permissions video, learners will configure access permissions for sensitive project documentation within Confluence, ensuring appropriate levels of access for team members based on their roles and responsibilities.

My Process

Because I was structuring the information as microlearning videos, a large concern was keeping the topics as concise as possible. I decided to keep them very simple and topic-based. I then used a new, very clean Confluence page to avoid clutter and reduce the cognitive load for the learner.

I screen recorded the process with Camtasia and added my audio to the media bucket, inserting screenshots where the learner would need more time to absorb the information. I then finished off the video by adding highlights to focus the learner’s attention on the screen.
