My company released a completely new software to replace the current, legacy software geared towards billing and accounting.
I was tasked with creating training that demonstrated key tasks and provided learners with the opportunity to practice in a low stakes environment.
This course focuses on creating and managing pledges in the software. It is one of 8 courses in the Cashier Accelerator Learning Path.
I was responsible for designing and developing each course in this project from beginning to end.

Design
This course was designed to teach cashiers at utilities how to manage pledges with the software. I designed it with realistic scenarios that allowed the learners to practice the exact process in the software. In this low risk environment, learners can click and navigate through each step without any fear of interfering with the actual system.
I was responsible for collaborating with an SME to confirm the process of creating and managing pledges in the software. After gathering this information, I created the talk show concept and wrote a script.
The pledge process is very dry, and I felt that adding a narrative/story to break up the course would provide the learner with a mental break. I introduced "Hellen FunGenerous" as a vibrant persona that could add an engaging twist to the training content.
Immersive experiences tend to help with learning retention, so I wove the theme of the talk show into multiple aspects of the course.
My goal was to organically integrate the knowledge check into the theme while also presenting effective questions that tied back to the course objectives.
My Process
Development
I wanted the knowledge check to have a familiar interface for learners (a phone poll), and used a phone template, text boxes, and strategic hotspots and triggers to recreate this common tool.
I developed the feedback layers to include tailored images that had individual hover states. The visuals clearly communicate the feedback, as well as the words.
For this project, I recorded all of the spoken lines, and then used audio software to alter the pitch and simulate different voices for the characters in the course. My role requires fast development, and this method allowed me to quickly record all roles without outsourcing a character to another instructional designer.
I used Vyond to create the narrative scenes because this tool allows me a fair amount of creative flexibility. I am able to create compelling scenarios quickly and save templates to share and use later as well.
I included each answer to the questions on a different layer, so the learner would receive tailored feedback depending on the response.
It’s important to respect adult learner’s time, so the course includes triggers that would allow them to skip narrative sections and go straight to the practice if desired.
