My Process

  • This course was a part of an exhaustive certification learning path for billing specialists at a utility. The main objective was to offer learners a low stakes environment to practice without fear of interfering with actual systems in the software.

  • Each course in the path followed a similar format, so I started by templatizing this video in Vyond and saving it to a shared team folder.

  • I included simple graphical elements to increase comprehension and create connections to familiar concepts for the learner.

  • The layout presented a challenge. The elements behind the graphics were on varying sides of the page. In order to design and develop around this, I add simple motion paths. This allowed me to keep the same template design (avoiding jarring, distracting layout changes) and still guide the learner through the information on the page.

  • Another challenge of the design included how to group the required information. The penalty process in billing requires the specialist to search for certain criteria when interacting with a customers account. In Vyond, I created an interactive checklist to help the learner keep track of that information while interacting with the new software. Each step was clearly outlined in the guide panel, and a checkmark alerted the learner that they had successfully completed a concept.

  • I recorded and edited the audio and added it to the Vyond project. Once I completed the project, I exported the video and added it to the Storyline file of the course.
